LONDON, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Monday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.03 percent, or 2.26 points, to close at 6,970.59 points.
Melrose Industries, a London-based company that specializes in buying and improving underperforming businesses, soared 1.92 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Hargreaves Lansdown and DCC increased by 1.50 percent and 1.40 percent, respectively.
Kingfisher, an international home improvement company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 4.01 percent. Antofagasta, a copper mining company, dropped 2.83 percent. Smurfit Kappa Group, a leading corrugated packaging company, fell 2.43 percent. Enditem
