Taliban command, control center dismantled in W. Afghanistan: official

HERAT, Afghanistan Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Government forces following fierce fighting have overrun and dismantled the command and control center of the Taliban outfit in Afghanistan's western Herat province, provincial governor Jilani Farhad said Tuesday.

"The security forces under the command of Herat police chief General Aminullah Omarkhil after seven days of fierce fighting were able to capture and destroy the command and control center of Taliban for Herat in Pashtun Zarghon district on Monday," Farhad told Xinhua.

According to the official, Pashtun Zarghon and Oba districts have been completely cleansed of the militants.

During the operations, a Taliban detention center was also discovered and destroyed, the official said, but did not provide more details.
