BANGKOK, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- A German man was arrested in eastern Thailand on Saturday on charge of stealing luggage at Suvarnabhumi airport, a senior airport official said on Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as Michael George, 39, was detained by authorities at Ban Hat Lek border checkpoint in Khlong Hat district of Trat province, which borders northwestern Cambodia, said Suvarnabhumi international airport's deputy director Kittipong Kittikhachorn.

The arrest was made after he allegedly stole the suitcase of a Thai woman passenger from the airport's luggage conveyor on Jan. 13, according to Kittipong.

If found guilty as charged, the suspect will be subject to a jail term ranging from one to five years and a fine ranging from 20,000 baht (about 606 U.S. dollars) to 100,000 baht (about 3,030 U.S. dollars). Enditem
