TEHRAN, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the recent revoke of Iranian Mahan Air license by Germany is "unjustifiable."

"The revoke of the licenses of Mahan Air flights to Germany is a hasty and unjustifiable measure and goes counter to the spirit governing the longstanding bilateral relations," Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said.

Qasemi expressed the hope for "the timely reconsidering of the wrong and unfavorable decision" by Germany, which might otherwise affect the mutual interests.

On Monday, Germany revoked the license of Mahan Air citing "security reasons," a German foreign ministry spokesman said.

The United States has been exerting heavy pressure on its European allies to reimpose sanctions on Iran since U.S. President Donald Trump decided last year to withdraw Washington from the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal and reimposed all sanctions that had been lifted under the deal.

Since December 2011, Mahan Air has been subject to several sanctions imposed by the U.S. Department of Treasury for its alleged violation of international laws. Enditem
