RABAT, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- A seminar on cooperation between Morocco and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was held in Morocco's capital Rabat on Tuesday.

Speaking at the seminar, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita said the relations between Morocco and NATO are based on trust, political dialogue and tangible cooperation.

Bourita stressed that the growing threat in the Mediterranean region must be placed at the heart of this cooperation.

The minister underlined the need to involve southern countries of the Mediterranean in reflecting on major security issues and called for a better structure of dialogue to promote development in the Euro-Mediterranean zone.

Morocco is a responsible stakeholder in regional security and stability in sub-Saharan Africa and the Mediterranean, he said, highlighting the role of the country as a credible interlocutor on migration issues, counter-terrorism, preventive diplomacy and peacekeeping.

Alejandro Alvargonzalez, NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, commended the "close cooperation" between Morocco and NATO in a context marked by many issues and security challenges.

He also vowed to strengthen the Mediterranean dialogue within the framework of cooperation that can meet the challenges of security and achieve the objectives of peace, security and stability. Enditem
