TOKYO, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were mixed Wednesday morning as buying on the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar was offset by ongoing concerns about the health of the global economy following the International Monetary Fund's gloomy outlook.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 8.63 points, or 0.04 percent, from Tuesday to 20,631.54.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.57 points, or 0.17 percent, at 1,553.86.
Issues that gained the most comprised precision instrument, information and communication, and banking issues.
Rubber product, oil and coal product, and mining issues were among notable decliners by the morning break. Enditem
