WINDHOEK, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's leading mobile company, Mobile Tele Communications (MTC), had announced that it started to provide 3G network coverage to rural areas of the country on Wednesday in Windhoek.

The company has set up a total of 111 sites of towers countrywide in an effort to have 100 percent network coverage during the first phase that is expected to end in March, MTC's Chief Human Capital and Corporate Affairs Officer Tim Ekandjo said.

"We are determine to reach all persons in rural areas by the end of this year. MTC will provide 3G in rural areas and there is a need for locals that find themselves in these areas to get smart phones to make use of the services we provide," he said.

According to Ekandjo, a total of 41 sites have been successfully put up MTC network towers in rural areas by the end of December 2018.

"MTC aims at setting up a total of 524 towers during the course of this year. A total of 64 sites have been completed with civil works," he said. Enditem
