SYDNEY, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- An alleged drug lord has arrived in Sydney from Serbia, having been extradited to face charges regarding a 1.28-tonne shipment of cocaine into Australia.

The 35-year-old man, who arrived in Sydney on Wednesday, was arrested in Belgrade over a year ago for his involvement with the crime. He will now join two other men who were extradited last year to face court regarding the shipment which police said was worth over 357 million U.S. dollars.

The drugs were divided into 2,576 individual blocks and hidden in pre-fabricated steel which arrived in the country by container ship in April, 2017.

According to media reports the men were part of an extensive crime syndicate which used building companies to move large amounts of money around as well as perpetrating a 150-million-U.S.-dollar tax fraud.

The accused will face charges of importing a commercial quantity of border controlled drugs and conspiracy offences. Enditem
