HAVANA, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Saturday slammed U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo for his accusations of Havana as "the foreign power meddling in Venezuela."

Washington has been "orchestrating" a coup against the government of President Nicolas Maduro, he said.

"Cuba categorically rejects the slanderous accusations launched by U.S. Secretary of State at the United Nations Security Council. His attack on the constitutionality of Venezuela, orchestrated from Washington, is doomed to fail despite all lies," said Rodriguez on his Twitter account.

Pompeo went to the UN Security Council to present Donald Trump administration's stance on Venezuela after the White House called Maduro "illegitimate."

Pompeo said no other country had done more to keep Maduro in power than Cuba.

"The U.S. Secretary of State resorts to slander against Cuba to justify a coup against the Constitutional power in Venezuela. We stand next to the Venezuelan people with solidarity, cooperation and Latin American loyalty," added Rodriguez in another post. Enditem
