JOHANNESBURG, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- The South African police on Sunday said they have arrested 10 taxi drivers and recovered some firearms after a shootout over routes.

The police said the taxis had been having misunderstanding since last December over routes in Mopani, Limpopo Province.

Last Friday a taxi association hired security vehicles to escort their taxis operating in a disputed area. Later, the hired security taxis were chased away by a group of people believed to be members of a rival association.

The men inside the security vehicles then responded by shooting at the taxis.

"Three men were in the process struck by bullets and sustained serious injuries,"said Limpopo police spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe, adding a total of 10 suspects were arrested after a car chase.

Ngoepe said the police "condemn the acts of violence within the taxi industry and urged all involved to engage the relevant authorities to solve their problems."

He further warned all troublemakers that they will face the full might of the law.

The suspects will appear in court on Monday facing charges of attempted murder and malicious damage to property. Enditem.
