LUSAKA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Monday.

-- The United States has apologized to Zambia for alleging that China intends to take over some state-owned companies because of the alleged failure by the government to settle its debt to the Asian country.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Malanji said the U.S. has officially apologized to Zambia for the misleading statement which was uttered by National Security Adviser John Bolton in December last year. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambia and Egypt have signed a memorandum of understanding extending the agriculture joint ventures between the two countries to skills development for prisoners.

Zambia's Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo and Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Ezz Stait signed the agreement which they said signified high level of partnership between the two countries. (Daily Nation)

-- Zambia's investment agency says discussions with local investors aimed at creating a Trade and Industrial Development Fund have reached an advanced stage.

Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) Director for Enterprise Development Mukula Makasa said the process would be concluded before the end of this year for the fund which will target start-up businesses that will need seed capital. (Times of Zambia)

-- The Zambia Chinese Wushu Association will recruit 200 martial arts students from all 10 provinces of the southern African nation this year.

Li Rusong, the association's president, said there has been growing interest from young people to learn Kung Fu since the association was established, adding that the association will also introduce Tai Chi, an internal martial art practiced for mental health and memory retention.
