SARAJEVO, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- A total of 105 children from migrants' families, who temporary reside in the northwestern region of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), started school on Monday, local media reported.
With the financial support of the European Union (EU), approximately 100 migrant children have undergone medical examinations in January, one of the main preconditions for their inclusion in the education system.
In four schools, teaching will take place in a special program which implies working with children who have undergone certain forms of trauma.
Ervina Lipovic-Hodzic, a teacher at a local school, said children learn through creative work and play, and the program is also designed to work with children who have experienced stress.
In 2018, 23,902 migrants have been registered on the BiH territory, mainly from Pakistan, Iran and Syria.
Currently, there are between 4,000 and 5,000 migrants in BiH, mainly in the cities near the border with Croatia, from where migrants are attempting to enter EU countries. Enditem
