BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.35 percent to close at 2,584.57 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.12 percent higher at 7,479.22 points.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index on Thursday closed at 5821.01 points, down 63.10 points from Wednesday's finish.

Among a total of 346 issues traded, 84 registered gains and 236 incurred losses while 26 remained unchanged.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Thursday moved up 9.13 points, or 0.56 percent to close at 1,641.73 points.

Some 13.67 billion shares worth 57.89 billion baht (about 1.86 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 68.78 points, or 1.68 percent, to a level of 6,532.98 on Thursday

Some 503,904 transactions were booked, involving 23.5 billion copies of shares with a value of 27.8 trillion rupiah (about 1.9 billion U.S. dollars).

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher on Thursday.

Buying was visible across all sectors, with maximum gains seen among banks, technology names as well as energy sector.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended mixed here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,683.53 down 0.58 points or 0.03 percent, and the Emas was at 11,660.62 up 3.50 points or 0.03 percent.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Thursday, increasing 0.05 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index increased 0.42 points, reaching 826 points after closing.

SINGAPORE -- Singaporean stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.5 percent, or 15.79 points, to close at 3,190.17.

A total of 1.38 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.33 billion Singapore dollars (about 987.89 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 228 to 162.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 299.62 points, or 1.08 percent, to 27,942.47 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,773.98 and 28,010.9. Turnover totaled 113.15 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 14.41 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Thursday as investor sentiment was brightened by a solid lead from Wall Street overnight, with buying propelled after the U.S. Federal Reserve indicated it would pause interest rate hikes to help underpin the economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 216.95 points, or 1.06 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 20,773.49.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended almost unchanged on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched down 1.35 points, or 0.06 percent, to settle at 2,204.85. Trading volume stood at 537 million shares worth 7.7 trillion won (6.9 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.35 percent higher on Thursday.
