Chinese constructed Walvis Bay container terminal in Namibia near completion

WINDHOEK, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The new container terminal at Walvis Bay which was constructed by Chinese company is 85 percent completed, chairperson of Walvis Bay Port Users Association Pillar Veiga said Tuesday.
The capacity expansion of the new terminal will allow for increased productivity and efficiency, making Walvis Bay a more attractive trans-shipment hub and gateway into the region, he said.
"The port users are excited to see completion of the new container terminal and are also very eager to start using the new facility as it is expected to be completed before the end of this year," Veiga said.
Veiga also said that in 2018, cargo volumes at Walvis Bay increased by 15 percent, a positive indication of increased cargo flow through the port.
The expansion project was started in May 2014 and with the African Development Bank providing the funding. He said that the new container terminal is set to double the port's container handling capacity from the current 350,000 to more than 750,000 containers, he said. Enditem
