KHARTOUM, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- An attempt to hijack a Sudanese passenger plane flying from Cairo to Khartoum was thwarted, official SUNA news agency reported Tuesday.

The plane, belonging to Sudan Airways, was subjected to a kidnapping attempt on Monday, according to Issam-Eddin Ahmed Mohamed Tahir, director of the Khartoum Airport.

"A passenger attempted to enter the cabin to hijack the plane," Tahir said.

The hijacker was among a number of passengers who were deported from Egypt for immigration reasons, he added.

The plane crew managed to control the situation and stop the passenger, he said, adding that the plane completed its flight and landed safely at Khartoum Airport before the hijacker was handed to the authorities. Enditem
