TOKYO -- Japan's franchise store Lawson Inc. admitted on Wednesday that two of its convenience stores had systematically falsified expiration times on some food items prepared in the stores.

The well-known company, which operates around 14,000 convenience stores in Japan and also in some Chinese cities, closed the two stores after discovering the misconduct carried over a period of more than two years. (Japan-Convenience store-Scandal)

NEW DELHI -- Priyanka Gandhi, the sister of Indian National Congress (INC) president Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday assumed the charge of party's general secretary at the party office in Delhi.

Since the last general elections held in 2014, the INC has been the main opposition party in the country.

Priyanka's appointment was considered as the first step into her active politics, though in the past elections she campaigned in the parliamentary constituencies of her brother Rahul and mother Sonia Gandhi, the former INC president. (India-INC-Priyanka)

TOKYO -- The swine flu epidemic continued to spread rampantly in central and western Japan, with local authorities struggling to contain the highly-contagious virus, while the government remained reluctant to use vaccines to eradicate the problem.

Swine flu, also known as hog cholera, was first detected on farms in Gifu Prefecture in September, but has been newly detected in pigs at farms in neighboring Aichi Prefecture, as well as at farms in Osaka, Shiga and Nagano prefectures, authorities said. (Japan-Swine flu)
