MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on a negative note on Thursday.

All sectoral indices except metal and energy were trading in green. The gain is led by auto, pharma, and FMCG index.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,693.39 up 9.78 points or 0.58 percent, and the Emas was at 11,753.42 up 80.28 points or 0.69 percent.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved down 5.60 points, or 0.34 percent to close at 1,653.11 points.

Some 14.23 billion shares worth 50.12 billion baht (about 1.61 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

JAKARTA -- Indonesia shares closed lower by 11.41 points, or 0.17 percent, to a level of 6,536.45 on Thursday.

Some 483,715 transactions were booked, involving 16.6 billion copies of shares with a value of 9 trillion rupiah (about 644 million U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going up 0.5 percent, or 16.08 points, to close at 3,200.64.

A total of 818.19 million shares changed hands with a turnover of 920.13 million Singapore dollars (about 678.36 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 205 to 138.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market Thursday closed down by 0.52 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased 4.27 points, reaching 823.90 points after closing.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Thursday following U.S. shares retreating overnight although SoftBank Group's announcement of a share buyback scheme a day earlier helped pare losses with its solid advance.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 122.78 points, or 0.59 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 20,751.28.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.52 percent higher on Thursday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 41.85 points to 8100.30. The all-share index went up by 13.09 points, or 0.27 percent, to 4906.57.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended almost unchanged Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) inched down 0.04 points to settle at 2,203.42. Trading volume stood at 423.14 million shares worth 6.25 trillion won (5.56 billion U.S. dollars).

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Thursday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 37.54 points, or 6.51 percent, to close at 614.28.

A total of 27,959 shares worth 201.2 million riel (50,173 U.S. dollars) were traded.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished higher on Thursday as the major banks surged, also supported by broad gains across most of the index.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 66.40 points or 1.10 percent at 6,092.50, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 67.30 points or 1.10 percent at 6,159.10. Enditem
