Speedboat capsizes off Thai island, 2 Chinese tourists injured

BANGKOK, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Thailand said on Thursday that a speedboat carrying Chinese tourists capsized off Thailand's Koh Samet island, leaving two Chinese tourists injured but not in critical condition.

The volunteer rescue team which participated in the rescue mission said on social media that the incident happened at around 13:00 p.m. local time and the boat carried 23 Chinese tourists, one tour guide and two crew members.

The Chinese Embassy told the media that after learning of the capsizing, it attached great importance to the incident and immediately activated emergency response mechanism, urging Thai police and hospitals to spare no efforts in rescuing and treating the affected.

It also asked relevant travel agencies to take good care of the affected Chinese tourists and make proper arrangements for follow-up matters.

The Chinese Embassy said that the two injured Chinese tourists are not in critical condition and all the tourists have returned to their local hotel.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, according to Thai media. Enditem
