KAMPALA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Dialogue among leaders of East African countries is strengthening regional peace, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has said, according to a State House statement issued here on Sunday.

"Peace in the region is getting better," said Museveni while meeting with European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini on Saturday on the sidelines of the 32nd African Union (AU) summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

There is no more fresh fighting in Burundi and the country's leadership is working more closely with its regional counterparts as witnessed in the recently-held East African Community (EAC) summit in Arusha, Tanzania, said Museveni, who just handed over the chair of the EAC to Rwandan President Paul Kagame.

"I am leading the peace process in Burundi and I know that what is disrupting the peace process. We will work to resolve this," he said.

For her part, Mogherini said Europe is accommodative and will strengthen trade and business relations with Africa.

"Europe has quite a lot of interests in Africa," she added.

African leaders are in Ethiopia to attend the 32nd AU summit under the theme of "Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons: Towards Durable Solutions to Forced Displacement in Africa." Enditem
