SINGAPORE -- Singaporean Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations S Iswaran applauded here Wednesday the trade agreements between Singapore and the European Union following the European Parliament's vote on the same day.

Noting that the European Parliament's decision to consent to the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement (EUSFTA) and the EU-Singapore Investment Protection Agreement (EUSIPA) will be hugely beneficial to the city-state and European citizens, the minister said that the agreements will bring the EU and Singapore closer together. KATHMANDU -- The Nepali government launched the much-awaited "Prime Minister Employment Program" on Wednesday aimed at providing jobs to the capable youth force in public sector.

At a special function held at the City Hall in Kathmandu, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli launched the program which will create a minimum of 100,000 jobs annually. (Nepal-Employment)

TALUQAN, Afghanistan -- Hundreds of people have left their houses for safer places as fighting continued in Dasht-e-Qala district of the northern Takhar province, the head of the Refugees Department in the restive province said Wednesday.

TOKYO -- The Tokyo government on Wednesday said it plans to introduce a law to ban parents and guardians from both physically punishing their children as well as verbally abusing them.

The Tokyo government's planned ordinance on child abuse prevention follows a widely-reported case last year of the failings of municipal and child welfare facilities that lead to the tragic death of a young girl at the hands of her parents. (Japan-Child Abuse-Law)

BANGKOK -- The Election Commission's (EC) bid to dissolve a political party which has named Thailand's Princess Ubolratana Mahidol as candidate for prime minister, was forwarded to the Constitutional Court for final judgment on Wednesday.

EC Secretary General Charungwit Phumma confirmed that he has submitted the dissolution case against the Thai Raksa Chart Party to the Constitutional Court after the commissioners had reached the unanimous resolution to that extent on Tuesday. (Thailand-Election)

HONG KONG -- The Chinese University of Hong Kong said on Wednesday that its research team has recently developed microrobots that can detect Clostridium difficile bacterial toxins accurately within 15 minutes.

Clostridium difficile, aka C. difficile, is the most common hospital acquired enteric infection. The toxins secreted by C. difficile will cause diarrhea, fever and hematochezia. In some cases, patients may develop life-threatening peritonitis and sepsis. (HK-Science-Microrobot) Enditem
