HOUSTON, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. crude oil inventories increased in the week ending Feb. 8, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a report on Wednesday.
According to the Weekly Petroleum Status Report, U.S. commercial crude oil inventories, excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, increased by 3.6 million barrels from the previous week.
At 450.8 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories were about 6 percent above the five-year average for this time of the year.
The data follows prediction that the global oil market will absorb crude supply from suppliers outside of OPEC, the International Energy Agency said in a report earlier in the day.
In the previous week ending Feb. 1, the EIA reported a buildup of 1.3 million barrels of U.S. crude oil inventories.
According to EIA, total motor gasoline inventories increased by 400,000 barrels last week and were about 4 percent above the five-year average for this time of year. Finished gasoline inventories increased while blending components inventories decreased last week.
Distillate fuel inventories increased by 1.2 million barrels last week and were about 2 percent below the five-year average for this time of year. Enditem
