BAGHDAD, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi on Wednesday reaffirmed the need to increase electricity production and achieve power stability to fight the country's stifling summer.
Mahdi's comments came during his meeting with a ministerial energy committee, where he urged the Ministry of Electricity to fulfill its commitment to increase power production during the hot summer season, according to a statement from the prime minister's media office.
"Mahdi listened to details and explanation on the power production, distribution stations and requirements to revive suspended power stations, as well as maintenance plans," the statement said.
The prime minister also ordered the review of tenders from global companies for increasing Iraq's power production, it added.
Since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, Iraqis have been haunted by a series of problems, including chronic power shortages and water contamination. Enditem
