Poland signs deal to buy rocket launchers from U.S.

WARSAW, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- Poland signed a deal to buy 20 HIMARS rocket launchers from the U.S. here Wednesday, in the presence of Polish President Andrzej Duda and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence.
Poland will pay 414 million U.S. dollars for the rocket launchers and ammunition, produced by the U.S. company Lockheed Martin.
"The HIMARS system is ... a weapon that will ensure Poland's security and safeguard NATO's eastern flank," said Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak upon concluding the deal.
The purchase, expected to be delivered by 2023, is part of a larger plan to modernise the Polish army.
In January, the Polish government signed a 181-million dollar deal to buy four Black Hawk helicopters from a Polish producer owned by Lockheed Martin. Enditem
