BAGHDAD -- Five Islamic State (IS) militants were killed Thursday in operation by Iraqi security forces in Iraq's northern province of Nineveh, a security source said.

A joint force from the Iraqi army and police commandos carried out a preemptive operation at a mountainous area in southwest of Nineveh's provincial capital Mosul, which itself is located some 400 km north of Baghdad, and destroyed eight tunnels, Saad Maan, spokesman of interior ministry, said in a statement. RIO DE JANEIRO -- The death toll from Brazil's tragic dam disaster in southeast Minas Gerais state has climbed to 166, the state civil defense agency said on Wednesday.

QALAT, Afghanistan -- At least four militants were confirmed dead and three others sustained injuries as government forces stormed a Taliban hideout in Arghandab district of the southern Zabul province on Wednesday, an army statement released here Thursday said.

WASHINGTON -- A federal judge on Wednesday ruled that Paul Manafort, U.S. President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, breached his plea agreement by intentionally lying to Special Counsel Robert Mueller, the FBI and the grand jury.

ISTANBUL -- Turkish authorities on Thursday detained at least four suspects over the collapse of an eight-storey apartment building in Istanbul that left 21 people dead.

LUSAKA -- South Africa has deported 25 Zambians for various immigration offenses, a Zambian government official said on Wednesday.
