MANILA -- Two army soldiers and four New People's Army (NPA) fighters have been killed in a clash in southern Philippines' Malaybalay City, the military said on Friday.

A military report said the clash took place around 9:40 p.m. on Thursday night in a village while an 11-man army team constructing an army base was attacked by about 30 NPA rebels. (Philippines-Clash)

SEOUL -- South Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held talks Friday at the inter-Korean liaison office in the DPRK's border town of Kaesong, according to local media reports citing Seoul's unification ministry.

YANGON -- A district court of Myanmar's Yangon on Friday handed down death penalty to two men for assassination of U Ko Ni, legal adviser of the ruling National League for Democracy (NLD).

HANOI -- The Vietnamese government has decided to offer businesses operating in the field of science and technology more preferential treatment, including corporate tax cuts and exemptions, lower land and water surface lease fees, and credit incentives, local media reported on Friday.

Under a governmental decree which takes effect from March 20, science and technology businesses with income sourced from creating and selling products, which result from scientific research and technological development, will get corporate tax reduction and exemption the same as businesses with new investment projects in scientific research and technological development, daily newspaper Vietnam News reported.
