OTTAWA, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Canadian coastal city of Vancouver is probably facing an "outbreak" of measles with nine related cases in the city this month, according to CTV Saturday.

The number of confirmed cases more than doubled from four earlier Friday, when the local health authority said all the infections involved three French schools. Two of the schools are connected by a door and the schools use the same bus company.

The health authority said most of the new confirmed cases are linked to one of the French schools. Many of the people exposed have been vaccinated and anyone who may be at risk are advised to get checked out.

The health minister of British Columbia provincial government has urged people to get vaccinated to protect themselves from the highly infectious disease.

Measles is a highly contagious disease that spreads through the air. Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, followed a few days later by a rash that starts on the face and spreads to the chest. Enidtem
