LUSAKA, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Sunday.

-- The Zambian government is targeting to mobilize 57.2 million Zambian Kwacha from its cooperating partners to effectively implement programs outlined in its national development plan.

Minister of National Development Planning Alexander Chiteme said the government is working with cooperating partners to effectively implement all development programs as outlined in the Seventh National Development Plan. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu says the loss of multiple lives in last week's boat accident in Nchelenge district in Luapula Province was unnecessary given the the investment in more modern water vessels deployed to the province which unfortunately have not yet started operating.

Lungu said in remarks during the burial of 14 people retrieved from Lake Mweru following the boat accident that the tragedy, and others like it before, could have been avoided had the boats delivered to the area last year been put to the service of the people. (Times of Zambia)

-- Zambian authorities have deported a Rwandese doctor again, two weeks after his return and despite a court overturning an earlier deportation order.

Rwasibo Kazuba Egide, who had challenged his earlier deportation in 2015 and won the case against his deportation, confirmed that he was arrested and deported when he returned back to Zambia. (Daily Nation)

-- An opposition lawmaker in Zambia arrested over allegedly stealing 10 bags by 50 kilograms of maize says his arrest was politically motivated.

Mubika Mubika, a lawmaker of the main opposition United Party for National Development (UPND), said allegations that he stole the maize from the state run Food Reserve Agency was meant to intimidate his party. (The Mast) Enditem
