JAKARTA, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- An investigation by Indonesian national transport safety committee (KNKT) has been launched after a Lion Air passenger plane skidded off runway Saturday at the main airport in Indonesia's West Kalimantan province.

Spokesman of the transport ministry Hengki Angkasawan said Sunday that investigators would find out the cause of the sliding movement of the aircraft which could not be controlled during landing at Supadio airport in Ponianak city.

"A team of KNKT is now at the scene and carrying out investigation on what was experienced by the Lion Air plane," he told Xinhua over phone.

Despite torrential rains which made the runway slippery during the incident, the spokesman noted that it's better to wait for the final result of the investigation.

The plane, which departed from Jakarta, overshot runway more than 1 meter, according to the spokesman. "However, there were no people injured," he added.

The plane has been pulled back to the runway and all the operation in the airport resumed to normal at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

In October last year, a Lion Air aircraft plunged into the sea 13 minutes after took off from the Jakarta international airport, killing 189 people on board. Enditem
