MADRID, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Executive Committee of the Spanish center-right Citizens party, or Ciudadanos (C's) on Monday ruled out forming a coalition government or making any post general electoral pact with the Socialist Party (PSOE) of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

The decision comes just three days after Sanchez called a snap general election for April 28 after failing to get his budget proposals passed by the Spanish Congress.

Speaking to the press after the Committee Meeting, C's Secretary General Jose Manuel Villegas confirmed the party would not pact "with the PSOE or with Sanchez".

Villegas said the decision had been taken because Sanchez had relied on the support of Catalan and Basque separatist parties during his eight and a half month spell in office and because he had held "dialogue" with Catalan separatists to try and win their support for his budget.

"The Executive has ratified the criteria that Ciudadanos will not pact with the PSOE or Pedro Sanchez for a future Spanish government," commented Villegas. He added that it was time to end the "two party system" of the PSOE and the right wing People's' Party (PP) of Pablo Casado and start a "new political era lead by (C's leader) Albert Rivera."

Recent opinion polls show that no single party in Spain can expect to win an overall majority on April 28, but that a combination of the PP, C's and Vox would be close to winning 176 seats required to govern in Spain. Enditem
