BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.2 percent, at 2,761.22 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.39 percent higher at 8,473.43 points.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Wednesday, down 0.68 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased 5.52 points, reaching 807.05 points after closing.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Wednesday moved up 9.67 points, or 0.59 percent to close at 1,645.38 points.

Some 12.47 billion shares worth 58.41 billion baht (about 1.88 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Wednesday. Indian indices bounced back and broke the eight-day losing streak.

All the sectoral indices ended in green led by metal, IT, energy, infra, bank, pharma and auto stocks.

The benchmark S&P, BSE Sensex closed at 35,756.26, up 403.65 points, or 1.14 percent, compared to its previous close at 35,352.61.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Wednesday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,726.18, up 19.62 points, or 1.15 percent, and the Emas was at 12,040.78, up 170.21 points, or 1.43 percent.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 285.92 points, or 1.01 percent, to 28,514.05 points on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,357.3 and 28,599.77. Turnover totaled 108.65 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 13.84 billion U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 106.3 points on Wednesday, up 0.09 points or 0.09 percent from the previous trading session.

Prices of 71 stocks went up, 77 stocks dropped, while 231 stocks remained unchanged.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.35 percent higher on Wednesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 105.49 points to 7,939.24. The all-share index went up by 54.05 points, or 1.13 percent, to 4,856.94.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Wednesday as investor sentiment was bolstered by Wall Street's overnight rise, helped by Walmart's solid sales figures.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 128.84 points, or 0.60 percent, from Tuesday to close the day at 21,431.49.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished lower on Wednesday as reporting season results varied.

At the market close, the S&P/ASX 200 index was down 10.40 points or 0.17 percent at 6,096.50, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 8.40 points or 0.14 percent at 6,175.80.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia's stocks finished higher on Wednesday, with the Cambodia Securities Exchange Index up 2.05 points, or 0.35 percent, to close at 596.06.
