JOHANNESBURG, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- South African Emergency Personnel's Union (SAEPU) said Wednesday that two ambulances and a truck collided on Tuesday night killing six people and injuring seven.
SAEPU said the incident happened in Free State at around 7 pm. The cause of the accident is unknown at this stage even though SAEPU suspects fatigue and overload.
"We are shocked following the accident that claimed six peoples' lives and left seven injured when two ambulances and a truck collided. It is alleged that the planned patient transport was overloaded," said SAEPU media liaison officer Kgaladi Makuwa.
She stated that the emergency person could have been tired since they work long hours.
SAEPU also called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the roadworthiness of the vehicles and overloading. Enditem
