WARSAW, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Poland and Lithuania signed an agreement on military cooperation on Thursday, during the first day of the official visit by Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite to Poland.
Under the agreement, Polish and Lithuanian mechanised brigades will work together as part of a multinational North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) battalion deployed on the military alliance's northeast flank since 2017.
"I am glad that military cooperation between Poland and Lithuania as part of NATO is deepening," said Polish President Andrzej Duda in his remarks to the press after meeting Grybauskaite.
"This is the culmination of our efforts to strengthen regional security, develop military cooperation and economic relations," Grybauskaite added.
On Friday, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will join his Polish and Lithuanian counterparts to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and to visit a Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian brigade stationed in the Polish city of Lublin. Enditem
