BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.91 percent, at 2,804.23. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 2.36 percent higher at 8,651.20.

The combined turnover of stocks on the two indices stood at 622.21 billion yuan (about 92.66 billion U.S. dollars), up from 618.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 186.38 points, or 0.65 percent, to 28,816.3 points on Friday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 28,430.2 and 28,816.3. Turnover totaled 109.13 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 13.90 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed marginally lower Friday as investor sentiment was dented by subpar economic data from the United States and the European Union and contributed to market concerns about the health of the global economy.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 38.72 points, or 0.18 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 21,425.51.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 106.82 points on Friday, up 0.7 points or 0.66 percent from the previous trading session.

Over 32.9 million shares worth roughly 533.9 billion Vietnamese dong (23.2 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Friday.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed flat on a negative note Friday.

Among the sectors, except energy and bank, all other sectoral indices ended in green.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,721.42, down 9.26 points or 0.54 percent, and the Emas was at 12,002.50, down 81.43 points or 0.67 percent.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed lower on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) going down 0.24 percent, or 8.01 points, to close at 3,269.9.

A total of 1.46 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.27 billion Singapore dollars (about 938.68 million U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 218 to 208.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 1.84 points, or 0.08 percent, to settle at 2,230.50. Trading volume stood at 401.7 million shares worth 4.5 trillion won (4 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.39 percent higher on Friday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 30.83 points to 7,962.13. The all-share index went up by 26.83 points, or 0.55 percent, to 4,883.83.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market finished higher on Friday with the majority of the index trending firmly higher and offsetting a slump in energy stocks.

At the market close the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 28.10 points or 0.46 percent at 6,167.30, while the broader All Ordinaries index was up 27.30 points or 0.44 percent at 6,241.90.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved up 11.88 points, or 0.72 percent to close at 1,659.20 points.
