Cambodia loses to Indonesia 2-0 as both into semi at AFF U-22 Championship

PHNOM PENH, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Host Cambodia lost to Indonesia 2-0 in their final Group B match of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-22 Youth Championship 2019 here on Friday.

Indonesian forward Marinus Wanewar brought the victory to his team after he scored two goals in the 18th minute and the 82nd minute respectively.

With the win, Indonesia has advanced to the semifinals.

For Cambodia, despite the loss, they booked a place in the semifinals after winning two consecutive matches against Malaysia and Myanmar. Cambodia still topped the Group B despite of the defeat.

The eight-team regional football tourney began on Feb. 17 and will run until Feb. 26 at the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia.

Meanwhile, in Group A, Vietnam and Thailand booked their spots in the semifinals already after their two consecutive wins over the Philippines and Timor-Leste. Vietnam topped Group A after a goalless draw with Thailand in their final group match on Thursday.

The semifinal games will be played on Feb. 24 with Cambodia taking on Thailand and Vietnam facing Indonesia.

Two winning teams in the semifinals will contest for the championship in the final game on Feb. 26. Enditem
