JAKARTA -- Indonesian police have thwarted an alleged terrorists' secret plan to attack policemen and seize their weapons in Yogyakarta province, national police spokesman Brig. General Dedi Prasetyo said here on Friday.

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir -- Two militants were killed on Friday in a daylong fierce gunfight with troops in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

KABUL -- Nearly two dozen anti-government insurgents have been killed over the past 24 hours as the government forces have increased military pressure in the insurgency-plagued country, the Afghan Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The security forces, according to the statement, have conducted five well-coordinated operations in Nangarhar, Ghazni, Helmand, Kandahar and Uruzgan provinces over the past 24 hours, killing 23 militants and injuring four others. (Afghanistan-Militants-Kill)

DAR ES SALAAM -- At least 19 people were killed on Thursday night in Tanzania's southern highlands region of Songwe after their minibus collided head-on with a lorry that was heading to Dar es Salaam from a border town of Tunduma, according to police reports.
Henry Kagwa, the Songwe Regional Hospital Medical Officer, said Friday 17 of the victims died on the spot and two others were pronounced dead at the hospital. (Tanzania-Accident) Enditem
