32 illegal immigrants arrested in Tunisia

TUNIS, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Tunisian navy on Friday intercepted 32 illegal immigrants on a fishing boat off the southeastern coast, said Colonel Tariq Billzak, director of the navy unit in Sfax province.

The 32 people were intercepted while sailing to the Italian coast, off the El Amra region belonging to Sfax province in southeastern Tunisia.

Billzak said on the national radio that the illegal immigrants have different African nationalities, adding that they were handed over to the National Guard.

Tunisia, located in the central Mediterranean, represents one of the main points of access to the EU through irregular channels. Enditem
