BEIRUT, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- French Ambassador to Lebanon Bruno Foucher said Wednesday that Lebanon is the hub for spreading the French language in the Middle East, the National News Agency reported.
"Lebanon is the only country in the Middle East region to celebrate the Francophonie for an entire month prompting 'The Organisation internationale de la Francophonie' to open its regional office in Lebanon," Foucher was quoted as saying during a press conference held to launch the month of the Francophonie in Lebanon.
Foucher said that French in Lebanon is not a foreign language but a Lebanese one; a language that contributes to Lebanon's cultural diversity.
The diplomat also indicated that the widest network of French schools abroad is present in Lebanon.
"Over 50 percent of school students are registered in Francophonic programs and this percentage can go up to 60 percent in public schools," he said. Enditem
