ISLAMABAD -- An Indian pilot released by Pakistan entered India Friday night through Wagah border crossing near Pakistan's eastern city of Lahore, Pakistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs said.

Earlier, Pakistani authorities handed over the pilot, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, to Indian authorities after completing the required procedure. (Pakistan-India-Pilot)

LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan -- At least 40 military personnel were killed and several others wounded during ongoing clashes between Taliban militants and Afghan forces inside an army base in southern province of Helmand, a local source said Friday.

TOKYO -- A joint bill to be submitted to the Diet and come into effect in April was finalized between Japan's ruling and opposition parties Friday, which will seek to compensate victims of forced sterilization under Japan's past eugenics law.

The bill mandates that reparations starting at 3 million yen (27,000 U.S. dollars) will be paid to each of the victims and an apology offered for the government's highly-controversial, forcible sterilization of thousands of people between 1948-1996 under the now-defunct eugenics protection law. ISLAMABAD -- The UN refugee agency UNHCR said on Friday it has resumed voluntary repatriation program for registered Afghan refugees from Pakistan on Friday after the winter break.
