LUSAKA, March 2 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Saturday.
-- The Zambian government says it will penalize Mopani Copper Mines for discharging tailings which include acid and uranium into undesignated areas.
Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Paul Chanda said the government was disappointed that the mining firm which had an approved tailing dam had created a new one which was not approved by the government. (Times of Zambia)
-- The Zambian government says land ownership by foreigners will be restricted when a land policy comes into effect.
Minister of Lands Jean Kapata said under the new policy only foreigners with serious investments will be allowed to hold land up to a period of 25 years subject to renewal. (Zambia Daily Mail)
-- Zambia has partnered with Japan in a three year project for an integrated Tuberculosis (TB) prevention and management in areas with a high prevalence of TB and HIV/AIDS cases.
The project will strengthen the diagnostic and treatment systems for TB patients, including those with co-infection of TB and HIV/AIDS. (Daily Nation) Enditem
