HANOI, March 5 (Xinhua) -- All five Vietnamese airlines canceled or delayed 4,984 flights in February, or 17 percent of the total scheduled flights, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam on Tuesday.

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines canceled or delayed 1,343 flights, or 11.1 percent of its total scheduled flights.

The respective figures were 2,677 flights and 21.5 percent for Vietjet Air, 838 flights and 25.5 percent for Jetstar Pacific, 98 flights and 9.2 percent for Vasco, and 28 flights and 5.5 percent for Bamboo Airways.

Up to 59.5 percent of the total delayed or canceled flights was due to the late arrival of planes from previous flights, said the administration.

The rate of canceled or delayed flights was acceptable, especially when the five carriers increased numbers of flights to meet the much higher travel demand during the lunar new year holiday, according to local aviation experts.

Vietnam's aviation industry served 8.2 million passengers, and 63,500 tons of cargoes in the first two months of this year, posting respective year-on-year rises of 10.6 percent and 7.9 percent, according to the country's General Statistics Office. Enditem
