ATHENS, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Greece's main opposition New Democracy (ND) party leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis asked the European Peoples' Party (EPP) for the suspension of Hungary's Fidesz party led by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, from EPP's ranks, Greek national news agency AMNA reported on Tuesday.

"A party cannot benefit from the privileges of its participation in the EPP, but at the same time refuse to share in the cost of policies that require European-wide burden sharing," Mitsotakis wrote in a letter sent to EPP head Joseph Daul.

The Greek conservative party leader strongly criticized Orban, especially over his attitude on migration, of violating the principle of European solidarity, AMNA reported.

"The entire administrative burden of EU border control cannot fall exclusively on the border countries...A clear message must be sent to our Hungarian friends that their behavior can no longer be tolerated," Mitsotakis said.

At the forefront of the refugee-migrant crisis over the past four years, Greece has requested many times other European countries to further assist in the management of the challenge, and complained in particular over the Hungarian government's negative stance.
