TEHRAN, March 6 (Xinhua) -- The visiting Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohamed al-Halbousi said here on Wednesday that his country will stand by Iran in facing the U.S. sanctions, Tehran Times daily reported.

Just as Iran had supportive stance in Iraq's fighting with terrorism, "we will also support Iran against sanctions," Halbousi said in a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani.

"Besides, it is the time now to pursue the interests of our nations, which requires us to boost our cooperation in the economic sphere and other sectors," he was quoted as saying.

For his part, Larijani expressed satisfaction with the current security situation in Iraq, saying that Iran and Iraq enjoy friendly relations in various fields, particularly in politics, economics and culture.

The Iranian speaker also called for the Arab states' help for the Palestinians, warning about "Israeli attempt to dominate the Arab world." Enditem
