LUSAKA, March 9 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Saturday.

-- Zambian President Edgar Lungu says he will need convincing reasons why cultivation of marijuana should be legalized for medical purposes owing to the current abuse of the narcotic drug.

Lungu said legalization of marijuana for medical use should be subjected to thorough research. (Zambia Daily Mail)

-- Zambia intends to establish livestock laboratories in all its 10 provinces aimed at increasing production and management of livestock and fisheries.

Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Permanent Secretary David Shamulenge said the laboratories will go a long way in strengthening fish and livestock disease surveillance in the country. (Times of Zambia)

-- Filmmakers in Zambia have launched an association to regulate and standardize the industry to avoid exploitation.

Lawrence Thompson, interim chairperson of the Professional Filmmakers Guild of Zambia, said film making was a business and that there was need for the industry to be run as business in order to create jobs. (The Mast) Enditem
