TOKYO -- A collision of a jetfoil ferry with a marine animal took place off Japan's Sado Island in the Sea of Japan on Saturday, injuring 87 people, local media reported, citing the Japan Coast Guard.

KABUL -- At least eight militants were killed and five others wounded in two military operations in Afghan provinces, authorities said Saturday.

MANILA -- An earthquake of 6.2 magnitude struck off Surigao del Norte province in the southern Philippines on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

WELLINGTON -- The deputy consul-general of the Chinese Consulate-General in Christchurch on Saturday visited the Chinese tourists who were injured in a car accident on Friday.
