NEW YORK, March 10 (Xinhua) -- The reported presence of an active shooter inside the New York-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, the U.S. state of New York, has been confirmed as a false alarm, local law enforcement officials said on Sunday night.

New York State Police and Westchester County Police officials responded to a report at around 9:00 p.m. local time (0100 GMT on Monday) of an armed man on the hospital building's sixth floor, local media reported earlier.

After over two hours of search and investigation, the police said that there was neither evidence of a gunman nor sign of anyone injured in the hospital.

Local news station NBC News 4 NY said that two patients in the hospital thought they saw a man with a gun and reported it to the nurse, triggering the massive police response.

Some people in the hospital's emergency room were told to leave, while others in other parts of the building were asked to stay calm and sit around waiting to leave, the New York Daily News quoted witnesses as saying.

The hospital has been given the all-clear, according to media reports. Enditem
