MUMBAI, March 12 (Xinhua) -- India's information and broadcasting ministry is working on a national broadcast policy for the country's fast-growing TV broadcasting sector, a top government official said Tuesday.

Speaking at the FICCI Frames 2019, Amit Khare, secretary of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, said "the (policy) draft is being prepared and we are working with stakeholders. So that India has a national broadcast policy and the second will be a policy or a strategy paper as to how the film industry and entertainment industry strategies for 2025,"

Stating that media and entertainment industry provides an estimated 2 million jobs; Khare felt the need to relook at the existing regulator structures due to the convergence of technologies as there were different regulations for print, TV, films and digital.

Every year 2,000 films are produced in India across multiple languages. "I think the content could be greatly enhanced if we have co-production agreement on stories which are shot jointly in two or three countries," Khare said. Enditem
