KABUL -- More than 30 militants had been killed in the conflict-battered Afghanistan over the past 24 hours as both the government and the Taliban outfit stepped up activities, officials said Wednesday.

In crackdown against militants, the fighting aircraft from the government forces struck a Taliban hideout in Khanabad district of the northern Kunduz province on Wednesday morning, killing eight insurgents and injuring three others, district governor Hayatullah Amiri asserted. NEW DELHI -- Six members of a family were killed Wednesday after a car carrying them skidded off the road and fell into a canal in southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, officials said.

SEOUL -- South Korea's foreign ministry said Wednesday that it will focus this year on helping resume dialogue between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States.

RIO DE JANEIRO -- At least eight people were killed on Wednesday, including five children, in a school shootout in Sao Paulo, Brazil, local firefighters said.

The attack occurred at a school that has more than 1,000 students in Suzano city in the metropolitan region of Sao Paulo on Wednesday morning when two teenagers entered the school and carried out a massive shooting. (Brazil-Shooting) Enditem
