BEIJING -- China's newly passed foreign investment law will benefit foreign investors and companies, and will help improve the Asian country's business environment, experts said.

The new law clearly bodes well for foreign investors, especially in terms of market access and equal treatment, said Mario Ohoven, president of the German Association for Small and Medium-sized Businesses.

The law will help create much better conditions for foreign investors and help them plan long-term returns on investments in China, Ohoven told Xinhua.

UNITED NATIONS -- "One member had persistently rejected a consensus of the Security Council that had been there for years, and turned down constructive proposals put forward by other members. As a result, the atmosphere for consultations was poisoned," said Wu Haitao, charge d'affaires of China's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, on Friday.

Wu made the remarks after Jonathan Cohen, acting U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations, accused China of "using Security Council resolutions as a platform for inappropriately promoting self-serving initiatives."

NAIROBI -- "We look forward to a meeting that can agree on specific actions to be implemented immediately to boost emissions' reduction and climate mitigation," said Luis Alfonso de Alba, UN secretary-general's special envoy for the 2019 Climate Summit.

The United Nations (UN) 2019 Climate Summit, which will take place on Sept. 23, is expected to adopt concrete action plans to promote the global green agenda, he said here Friday.

Preparations for the summit are in top gear and organizers have identified specific areas for discussions that are expected to boost global response to climate change, the official told Xinhua on a side event of the just concluded fourth session of UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi.

WASHINGTON -- "We're building a lot of wall right now," U.S. President Donald Trump told "angel moms" who surrounded him after he vetoed on Friday a bill blocking his emergency declaration on the border crisis.

Trump signed the veto at the White House one day after the U.S. Senate voted to block his emergency declaration. Trump vowed to veto the bill immediately after the Senate vote.

In a prepared remark made just prior to the signing, Trump said the Congress decision was "dangerous" and "would put countless Americans in danger." Enditem
