TUNIS, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on Tuesday received visiting French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, a presidency statement said.

The two-day visit of Le Drian is part of monitoring the implementation of a road map in several areas of bilateral cooperation.

Regional and international issues of common interest will be discussed, especially the security situation in Algeria and Libya.

"During the meeting, Essebsi said Tunisia is following with great interest the political development in Libya and spares no effort to invite the Libyan brothers to continue the dialogue," the statement said.

Le Drian said France appreciated the major role played by Tunisia in ensuring the security and stability of the region, especially with regard to the Libyan issue.

"Tunisia is in the front line in face of the Libyan crisis and it is also a valuable partner in our efforts to resolve it," he added.

Investments and bilateral cooperation in areas such as tourism, culture, higher education and new technologies will be on the agenda of the visit. Enditem
