TRIPOLI, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Libya's UN-backed Prime Minister Fayez Serraj on Tuesday called on all Libyan parties to participate in a consensual solution to the political crisis in Libya.

Serraj made his remarks during a meeting with Commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Thomas Waldhauser, and U.S. Charge d'Affaires to Libya Peter Bodde.

"The prime minister spoke about his efforts to achieve national consensus through meetings with all key Libyan parties," the Libyan PM's information office said in a statement.

Serraj also highlighted the need to establish a civil state in Libya, as well as uniting the military in the country, the statement said.

The two sides agreed to support the plan of UN envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame to consolidate the democratic process through legislative and presidential elections, paving the way for a national conference, it said.

They also stressed that there is no military solution to the current Libyan crisis, the statement added.

Libya has been suffering from escalating violence and political division ever since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.

The north African nation has been struggling to make a democratic transition amid political division between the eastern- and western-based governments.

Waldhauser said that AFRICOM is monitoring and following up movements of the Islamic State remnants and targeting them militarily, in coordination with the Libyan government of national accord. Enditem
